I’m Sonia Vaidya, a computer science undergraduate at the University of Toronto. I’m passionate about computer science, and how it shapes the world around us, especially art, politics, and economics.
My research interests lie in social networks and communication. I’m a research assistant to Dr. Hanna Morris at UofT’s School of The Environment, where I’m investigating the impact of social media and podcasts on climate politics. I love creating, and aspire to build applications of scale in a fast-paced environment. I’m leading a team of 17 students at UofT AI, the University of Toronto's largest AI student group, to organize Toronto’s biggest student-run AI conference, ConferenceX. I'm coordinating between 15+ speakers from leading AI companies, startups, and academia including Google, Accenture, Citadel, the World Economic Forum, the Vector Institute, Stanford, and more. I'm also corresponding with 5 sponsoring companies like KPMG and PWC, 4 startups like TempoLabs and Perplexity, 6 research labs, and 3 internal UofT AI teams (marketing, partnerships, projectX) to bring this conference to life. I’m also a photographer and dancer. I’ve directed three short films, but I currently dedicate more time to photography and dance classes at a Toronto-based studio!
